Workers can find out ‘Covid rights’

CONDUCT such as discrimination, bullying and unfair dismissals are not tolerated in the workplace and with the Covid-19 pandemic posing a distinct set of challenges for workplaces, it is critical that employees, including casuals, are well aware of their rights under the law.

A free seminar, ‘Employment Law’, will outline what everyone should know with Covid-19 changes and is on offer this Saturday, November 21, 2-4pm, at Reg Byrne Community Centre, Fyall Avenue, Wentworthville.
Addressing some of the available legal protections, the seminar will include advice on how to assert your rights when you feel you have been treated unfairly in the workplace.
Facilitated by Barrister Ian Latham, the seminar will take the group through the rights of the employer to stand down employees because of Covid 19; the rights of those who have been stood down; the legislative changes introduced by the Government; and the financial compensation for those who are unable to work.
“I will also discuss the practical implications of Covid 19 in terms of the operation of courts, tribunals, regulators and unions.
“Finally we will deal with the long-term future of work post Covid-19.
“I would advise anyone seeking advice on these subjects to register and to do so without delay due to limited seating being available.”
