Women’s Cricket

AFTER one loss, a bye and two wash outs to start the season, Bankstown Sports Women’s Cricket Club (BSWCC) faced the 2019/20 Premiers, Sydney Cricket Club, in the NSW Womens Premier Cricket.

BSWCC got off to the perfect start with a wicket in the second over thanks to Emily Lawler (1-19). Some tight lines and excellent efforts in the field saw the wickets shared with Jannatual Sumona (1-16), Tara Aoina (1-8) and Prue Roebuck (1-7) all taking one and Alice Whelan (2-10) and Angelina Genford (2-12) taking two.
Sydney were all out for 91 in the 19th over. BSWCC needed to start positively and did with an opening partnership of 48 before losing 3 wickets in relatively quick succession. Due to a 31 from Sumona and a 21 from Tahlia Dunne, Bankstown Sports had set the platform to launch from and got the runs 3 down in the 16th over.
Bankstown Sports 3rd Grade, 4-105, were defeated by UTS North Sydney, 7-115.
BSWCC lost the toss and were sent in to bat for Round 5 of the T20 competition. Top scorer was Alanna Yates who retired 30 (44) not out and was well supported by Brianna Fraser 24 (34) before being run out. Rosalyn Ou chipped in with 16 (17) and a quick fire 10 (7) from Maeve Martin saw BSWCC reach 4/105 of their 20 overs.
In the field UTS North Sydney started very well reaching 31 before the loss of the first wicket. Bowlers that preformed well were Maeve Martin 2/10 off 2 overs, Rosalyn Ou 1/16 off 4 overs, Alanna Yates 1/31 off 4 overs and Hannah Gibson 0/17 off 4 overs. UTS North Sydney finished with 7/115 off their 20.
BSWCC U18 Brewer Shield side went down to Sydney Cricket Club after chances were left begging in the field.
Bankstown batted first reaching 7/103 from 20 with Brinly Peters top scoring with 22 (23), Yasmin Fernando 18 (19) and Temeika Wilson 16 (27). In the field multiple drop catches meant Sydney were able to build solid partnerships to pass BSWCC total in 18.3 overs, 5 wickets down. Peters was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 2/8 (3.4). Chrissa Stathis 1/9 (3), Madison Rutherford 1/12 (3), Hannah Gibson 1/24 (2) all chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Round 5 of the Sixers Cricket League saw BSWCC U15 Div 2 side take home their first win of the season in a thrilling final ball victory over Randwick JCC Blasters.
RJCC set a competitive 88 runs for victory after wickets were shared around in the field. Katie Abrook finished with impressive figures of 2/1 off 2 while Aditi Shidore 1/3 (2), Bismah Choudhry 1/10 (2), Sevani Gezginci 1/14 (2) and Katelyn Dancy 1/17 (2) all picked up one wicket each. Summer Hession top scored with an unbeaten 19 (30) and was well supported by opening partner Marium Mahmood 8 (21).
