Winning school third in all NSW Catholic Schools

ST Ursula’s College Kingsgrove Principal Mary Leask has praised her 161 HSC students in 2020, after they achieved results ranking them third in all NSW systemic Catholic schools and 77th on the Sydney Morning Herald’s Top 100 Schools in the State list.

Over 56 percent of students received an ATAR of over 80 and, of those, 44 students gained ATARs in the 90s.
“What an impressive group of young women they are,” Mrs Leask said.
“Undertaking the HSC is a challenge at any time but to do so in a year of uncertainty and disruption and to achieve what they did, with such positivity and resilience, is remarkable.”
One student made the HSC Top Achievers list, coming ninth in the State in Mathematics Standard 1, while seven other students were named on the NSW All-round Achievers merit list.
Meanwhile, 80 students received 172 mentions on the Distinguished Achievers list. Students were also selected to showcase their major works in the Texstyle, Art Rules, ArtExpress and Shape exhibitions.
“At St Ursula’s, we are dedicated to nurturing a love of learning and these results are reflective of the hard work students put in,” Mrs Leask said.
In fact, even before results came in, 60 percent of students received early entry offers into university, showing their dedication in the face of the unique circumstances of 2020.
Mrs Leask said credit must also go to teachers and staff who stepped up last year, working to make sure that the best possible processes were in place to set up students for success.
“The passion they have for helping our students reach their full potential really shone through,” she said.
“Thanks also to the parents and carers who took on such an active role in their daughter’s education.”
As the graduates of the Class of 2020 begin an exciting new chapter of their lives in 2021, Mrs Leask wishes them every success.
“We cannot wait to see these brilliant young women make a positive change in the world,” she added.
