Three teams win grand finals

OVERCOMING the challenges of a disrupted season and early training restrictions, three teams from the Merrylands Soccer Football Club (MSFC) have blitzed their grand final matches.

In State Parliament last week, State MP for Granville, Julia Finn, congratulated the MSFC’s Under 14 Division 1 Girls team who smashed out an emphatic 7-0 win against Glenwood, as well as the game’s MVP Samira Salem who kicked three goals.
“We are all so proud of Samira and the club,” she said.
“Soccer has provided the girls with teamwork, commitment, confidence, persistence and hard work, but most of all a fun environment facilitating fitness and a sense of family.”
Samira’s proud mum Sue said it was a “fantastic” effort by the entire team, adding that Abuk Nyor also finished with a hat-trick and Angelina Georges kicked the team’s final goal.
She also praised the efforts of “team coach Ronnie and team manager Siran” who both volunteered their time in weekly training sessions and weekend competition.
“We thank them both for their commitment and to the parents for their continuous support week in, week out,” she said.
Sue added that Merrylands SFC, especially president Darren Ney and the committee volunteers, worked tirelessly to provide an environment where “fun, fitness and family co-exist”.
The Club’s Under 16 Boys Division 2 team also won their grand final, beating Regents Park FC 3-1, while the Youth Division 3 team defeated the Guildford County Recreational Soccer Club 4-2.
Unfortunately Merrylands SFC’s under 13 Division 1 boys team lost their final game of the season to Greystanes FC 8-0.
