Charged man attacked three
About 11.50am, officers from Bankstown Police Transport Command were conducting proactive patrols when they attempted to speak with a man standing in the middle of Jacob Street Terrace.
The two female senior constables instructed the man to move off the road, before he allegedly became physically aggressive toward them.
He allegedly punched and kicked both officers, who used OC spray in an attempt to subdue him, before he ran from the area and boarded a train.
Detective Superintendent Todd Cunningham said the man kicked one officer in the chest and began punching her.
“The second officer then got involved and assisted her partner before the man then turned on her and began to knee and punch that officer,” he said.
Dazed after the alleged earlier attack, the first officer then got back involved in the altercation and used OC spray on the man before he ran off.
A 43-year-old man was arrested a short time later at a home at Yagoona and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he allegedly assaulted a third officer, a 32-year-old male senior constable.
He was charged with three counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty and travel or attempt travel without valid ticket.
The three police officers were all taken to hospital for treatment and have since been released.
Sup Cunningham commended the brave actions of the police officers and the community members who assisted.
