Tea wins U16 NSW selection at just 14

KICKING goals for most of her life, Tea Mucenski (pictured) has been selected in the Under 16s State Football team to take on the best in Australia next month in Coffs Harbour.

At just 14, Tea is the youngest to be selected for the squad and according to Mum Joanne, is ecstatic as she didn’t think she had a chance of making the side of older girls.
Birrong Public School Captain in 2019, Tea now attends Endeavour Sports High School and started playing with Birrong Football Club before representative stints with Bankstown United and Bankstown City Lions.
She then caught the eye of Football NSW and is now on the junior pathway, with her dream of playing for the Matildas one day.
“Playing in the nationals is a great start,” says Joanne who was a former Birrong FC player and still plays summer soccer.
“It’s when they start looking at the girls for the junior development squads.
“The next stop would be Junior Matildas, then Young Matildas before Senior Matildas.”
With the determination of a champion, the devoted teen trains four nights a week and plays with her school three times a week and the September 19-23 nationals can’t some quick enough.
“She is so talented and works very hard so we’re sure she will go all the way,” Joanne said.
“We are extremely proud and excited for her.”
