Struggling families urged to register for toys and hamper

WISHING you could afford to give your children new toys and some special treats at Christmas?

Well, now you can.
Struggling families are being urged to register with Auburn Salvos to get free Christmas gifts for their children and a free Christmas hamper but you must call 8644 0167 by Friday, December 4, and book to go in and register.
Donations of new toys and clothing and canned or boxed food are also being sought and can be dropped off at Auburn Salvos at 166-170 South Parade, Auburn, or call 8644 0151 to arrange for collection.
“We don’t want anyone to go it alone this year, if you need food, gifts, financial support or are feeling lonely, please get in touch with us,” Salvos Captain Ashish Pawar.
Helping over 700 families last Christmas, Capt Pawar said it had been a huge year with their resources stretched like never before over job losses in the pandemic.
“With the toys and Christmas hampers, we are aiming to lighten the burden on local families at what is an incredibly expensive time of year,” he said.
“Covid-19 has also meant that a lot of annual Christmas events, like carol singing, can’t go ahead but the Salvos are keen to let people know that help is here and our normal welfare services are still operating as well as Christmas church services plus some other activities.”
Auburn Salvos is planning a number of Covid-safe Christmas events and church services this festive season. To find out more, visit salvationarmy.org.au.
