Theft, sex attempt arrest

A MAN has been charged over the alleged attempted sexual assault of a woman after breaking into an Ashfield home last week.

Detectives, along with the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad, commenced an investigation following reports a man, armed with a knife, entered a bedroom of an Ashfield share home on Tuesday (July 9), and allegedly threatened a 22-year-old woman.
The man allegedly physically assaulted the woman who resisted and raised the alarm, alerting a housemate before the man fled.
The woman suffered a minor laceration to her hand.
Following extensive inquires, a 21-year-old man, who is not known to the woman, was arrested at an Ashfield business just before 9am last Saturday.
He was charged with attempt aggravated sex assault – threat to inflict actual bodily harm with weapon, attempt aggravated sexual assault – break and enter with intent, dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, aggravated robbery, aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – use violence, choke person intend to commit indictable offence, kidnap with intent commit serious indictable offence occasion actual bodily harm, enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence.
Police will allege in court that the man took the woman’s mobile phone and transferred money from the woman’s bank account after fleeing.
