Champion boxers drop in to inspire PCYC girls with punch

INVITED to visit as a way to inspire girls who have recently taken up the sport, two leading female boxers dropped into Bankstown PCYC last week to share their success stories.

Malakay Moukayber, Australian National Boxing Federation Welterweight professional champion, and Raianne Alameddine who in October 2016, became the first hijabi amateur/pro corner person in Australia, were mobbed by the girls who were allowed to ask three questions each.
“It was a great success and the girls got a lot out of it,” PCYC Bankstown Club Manager David Adams said.
“We were really thankful to Malakay and Raianne for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit and offer their words of advice.

“The girls’ questions ranged from what are the best techniques, to what boxing is like as a career.
“We also presented with an award one of our most improved and dedicated girls, Mariam, which was given to her by Malakay.
“The girls at PCYC Bankstown really looked up to them and it was an inspirational evening.
“In a boxing program that has been heavily dominated by men, it is a great reflection on the changing views of the local community.
“Both boxing gyms and PCYCs are not just a place for the boys to hang out.
“It’s also great for the boys to see that women can box, and helps them shape positive views on women’s roles in society.”
Boxing is on offer at the PCYC from Monday to Friday, 5.30-7pm.
