Sports day for youth with disability

INNER West Council hosted an Activate Inclusion Sports Day in partnership with Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT and Sport NSW on International Day of People with Disability last Tuesday.

The Activate Inclusion program is a ground-breaking initiative focused on providing sporting pathways for students aged five to 18 years with a physical, intellectual or sensory disability. It gives them the opportunity to experience a variety of sport activities in a fun and inclusive environment.
This event caters for up to 200 students with a range of activities being showcased including boccia, cricket, dance, football, goalball, gymnastics, inclusive playground, table tennis, tennis and wheelchair sports.
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said the council was striving to make sure that everyone in the area could enjoy the physical and mental benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.
