THEY were barely out of their teens when they married but Revesby’s Bob Beer says he wouldn’t change a thing ahead of celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with wife Sandra.
Married at St Bede’s Beverly Hills on December 5, 1970, Bob says they are both enjoying a nice new chapter in their lives since retiring and being able to spend a lot more time together.
With Sandra working in aged care and Bob a civil engineer with Sydney Water before retirement, the couple have also been very active with Bankstown’s Recreation, Sports and Aquatics Club (RSAC) which provides programs and activities for people with disability.
Also a volunteer with the Coast Guard and the SES, Bob was on the RSAC committee for many years even serving as president and fundraising manager.
“Though a little upset by Covid-19, RSAC still provides a range of activities, holidays and other programs and boasts around 500 members,” he said.
Planning to celebrate their anniversary with a family dinner at home with their sons, Matthew and David, Bob says their is no real secret to maintaining a happy marriage.
“You’ve got to be tolerant, understanding and supportive and I’m so lucky that I married Sandra because there is no one more supportive than her, especially through all of my years of studying, working and volunteering,” he said.
“I think it’s important to find things that you enjoy doing together too and don’t ever take each other for granted.”
