Roll up for blood pressure check

BLOOMS The Chemist in Padstow is encouraging residents to roll up their sleeves this month and get an accurate blood pressure check after a new study revealed patients with hypertension are at increased risk for greater severity of Covid-19.

The research paper titled, ‘Hypertension and Covid-19: Current Evidence and Perspectives’, concluded that hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, still represents a “moving target” in Covid-19 management, with further clinical trials on the way.
Blooms Padstow Pharmacist and hypertension expert, David Tran, says high blood pressure is an epidemic and is a strong advocate for having an accurate measurement.
“High blood pressure may be an indicator of other underlying health concerns and may lead to heart attacks, stroke, and cardiovascular disease,” he said.
“Other potential side effects include eye damage, kidney damage, erectile dysfunction, and memory loss.”
This year the theme of World Hypertension Day (May 17) is ‘Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer’, with a focus on combatting low awareness rates among the general public, particularly as hypertension can have no immediate symptoms and is often called the “silent killer”.
“With World Hypertension Day coming up this month, we encourage Australians of all ages to pop into their local Blooms The Chemist today to get a blood pressure check, or visit their local GP,” David said.
