Rise to challenges in first half of year

WHILE parents, families and the community are integral to the learning of students, when you speak to the student leaders at Auburn West Public School (AWPS), their enthusiasm for learning is obvious.

Despite 2020 being a very different year of learning, including learning from home, the AWPS Student Leadership team believes their school continues to be a great place to learn.
With over 600 students from diverse cultural backgrounds, student voice is a strong focus for the school.
“Our students feel confident to talk about their learning and they work collaboratively with their teachers to determine ‘where to next’ in their learning journey,” Principal Leanne Hodges said.
While Auburn West Public School students develop their literacy and numeracy skills every day, they also undertake learning in other areas including STEM, creative arts, sport, history and geography.
“With significant growth in students taking on leadership roles within the school (86 leadership positions were offered to students in 2019), students really are at the centre of this outstanding school,” Ms Hodges said.
