A new 20 kilometre 330kV underground circuit from Potts Hill to Alexandria and substation upgrades at Potts Hill and Picnic Point will help power Sydney’s future.
The NSW Government has cleared the path for the construction of the Powering Sydney’s Future project which will ensure safe, reliable and affordable electricity supply for more than 800,000 people living and working in Sydney’s CBD and surrounding areas.
TransGrid CEO Paul Italiano said he’s pleased the NSW Government has fast tracked its process and welcomes the planning approval for this significant project which will secure Sydney’s energy supply and create 140 jobs during construction.
“Construction will begin on Powering Sydney’s Future this winter and we will continue to work closely with residents, businesses and local councils throughout the project,” said Mr Italiano.
“We’ve been working with communities and other stakeholders since 2017 on the project, to install a new 20 kilometre 330kV underground circuit from Potts Hill to Alexandria and upgrade substations at Potts Hill, Alexandria and Picnic Point.”
The project, approved by the Australian Energy Regulator in May 2018 will ensure reliability of supply to the nation’s largest economy.
Sydney’s CBD and surrounding areas are currently supplied by electricity cables installed more than 50 years ago, which are now reaching the end of their serviceable life and they will be replaced with new 330kV cables.
