Pastry chef ‘Business Person of Year’

Business Person of the Year’, Trianon Cake Shop owner Arthur Efthymiou with son-in-law James Pitsiniagas

HE has won the Bakery/Cake Business Award for the last four years in a row but when Arthur Efthymiou’s Trianon Cake Shop was named again as the category winner in the 2022 Canterbury Bankstown Local Business Awards, he was in total shock as he was not expecting to win for a fifth time.

Imagine his jubilation at the end of the night when his name was called out again, this time as the winner of the ‘Business Person of the Year’.
“My legs were trembling,” he said.
“I just couldn’t believe it since there were 40 or so outstanding business leaders of big companies and I didn’t even know I’d been nominated for that category.”
Taking over the Earlwood business that was started by his Dad Andrew, Arthur and son-in-law James who joined the business about four years ago, specialise in creating traditional and modern Greek and Cypriot desserts.
The passionate pastry chef says it’s definitely in the blood.
“Our customer base is growing all the time,” he said.
“I would be here 24 hours a day if I could, I love it that much and I still come to work excited to be here everyday.”
Another winner who was in total shock, Effie Nicol’s Yellow Brick Road Earlwood business took out the Professional Services category.
The first-time finalist, let alone winner, said she couldn’t believe it and was still pinching herself.
“I was up against such stiff competition and am so happy to win,” she said.
“I think we provide excellent customer service, we go above and beyond every time and are always focused on helping the community.
“To receive acknowledgement for our effort is lovely.”
Dial Up Plumbing owners Ben and Miriam Harb weren’t even present to hear they had won ‘Business of the Year’ as they had booked a wedding anniversary trip previously but their team was there to hear the news.
“We got the updates via the phone and were definitely surprised and humbled,” Miriam said.
“We’re a family business and everyone is over the moon; it’s great all of our hard work and always wanting the best for our customers has paid off.”
