Passenger trapped as driver smashes into Auburn Library

GRANVILLE Library is undergoing repairs after a car crashed into the building in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to Memorial Drive after reports of an accident at 1am and found a Mitsubishi Triton utility wedged in the library building with a 40-year-old female passenger trapped.
After being freed by Fire and Rescue NSW and treated by paramedics, she was taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries.
The 43-year-old driver allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test before returning a breath analysis reading of 0.108 at Granville Police Station, and the Sefton man was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive with mid-range PCA and negligent driving and had his licence suspended.
Cumberland Mayor Steve Christou said damage to the library facade of the building was quite severe and it would remain closed temporarily.
“We’re grateful that no one has been killed in this accident,” he said.
“The Centre only opened in September and we know this will be very disappointing for local residents who are using facilities at this site, including the library.
“Besides the library, the rest of the Centre remains open including the gallery and access to the pool.”
A council spokesperson said the library could reopen to the public on Thursday, November 26.

Drug supply charges
A GUILDFORD man has been charged with commercial drug supply following an investigation which began in August into an automotive store in Port Kembla.
Strike Force Mote was established by detectives from Lake Illawarra Police District and during a raid on September 30, they allegedly uncovered almost half a kilogram of methylamphetamine – with an estimated potential street value of $80,000 – drug paraphernalia, a firearm and ammunition.
Two 27-year-old men and a 39-year-old man were charged with commercial drug supply offences allegedly in connection to the seizure and the trio remain before the courts.
Last Tuesday, State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad investigators stopped a white Toyota Camry in Penrith and allegedly found $65,000 cash.
While the 32-year-old male passenger was released pending further inquiries, the 33-year-old male driver’s Guildford home was searched, with Strike Force Mote investigators allegedly seizing 16kg of MDMA, three kilos of methylamphetamine, a kilo each of heroin and cocaine and $320,000 cash.
Police allege he was the ‘upline supplier’ of a syndicate operating out of the automotive store.
