Ace player on rise

Sarah dons green, gold for first time to battle 16 nations

CAMPSIE’S Sarah Rokusek will take on some of the world’s best junior tennis players at the 2020 Asia/Oceania World Junior Tennis Competition.
The Year 9 student at Meriden in Strathfield, will don green and gold for the first time and head to the Gold Coast next week to play in the Under 14s category against the best young tennis players from 16 nations.
National teams that finish in the top four spots in the qualifying event earn a place at the 2020 U14 World Championships, which will be held in the Czech Republic in August.
The 13-year-old ace trains six days each week both before and after school and said there was a lot to love about tennis.
“I love travelling for competitions because I get to meet new people and explore different places,” she said.
“I also really enjoy representing Meriden at Tildesley and other school tennis events because I get to play alongside my friends.”
She was to play for Meriden at the annual Tildesley Shield Tennis Tournament just two days before she takes to the clay courts for her country at the World Junior Tennis event but the event has been cancelled because of the coronavirus risk.
Saraha has still been maintaining her routine “as I always do and focus on my warmup and recovery habits to avoid injuries at this time”.
The school has been a strong supporter and its Olympus program has helped Sarah to ensure she has kept up with her academic studies during these periods of intense training and competitions.
