Over 100 already registered for Little Athletics start to season

OVER 100 have registered so far for the upcoming summer season at Revesby Workers’ Little Athletics Centre but it will be a very different season that gets underway on September 12.

Normally competing in the southern metropolitan zone, this season will just see club-level competition after Little Athletics NSW last week cancelled zone and regional competitions over Covid fears.
The start of the season has also been delayed because of children still being involved in other later starting sporting competitions.
“It would normally run on a Friday night but we have a lighting issue at our grounds at Western Sydney University, Milperra, and so for the first three weeks, it will be held on a Saturday afternoon before switching back to Friday nights from October 9,” President Christine Butters said.
“We are hoping to have registered 250 to 300 athletes, from under 6s to under 17s, by the time our season starts and have already had our Covid safety plan approved, with the sanitising gear ready to go and will be ensuring social distancing for our participants and spectators.”
Costing $115 for the season, parents have the option of using the $100 Active Kids Voucher to reduce costs and are also eligible for discounts if they have more than one child competing.
Parents are also encouraged to become members of Revesby Workers’ Club which is the major sponsor.
Mrs Butters says it is money well spent.
“Athletics is an all-round sport teaching gross motor and running skills,” she said.
“It’s the perfect foundation for all other sports and will help them in everything else they do.”
