Olympic put rival in place

IT was the perfect return to action for Sydney Olympic with a 2-0 win against rivals Sydney United 58 in the NPL NSW Men’s competition.

A Fabio Ferreira double helped Olympic and new coach Ante Juric to take the win on Sunday afternoon.
The former A-League star was on song to claim his brace inside 20 minutes as Olympic flexed their muscle early on.
United 58 struggled to match it with the visitors in the opening stanza but managed to claw their way back into the contest in the second half.
However, the home side couldn’t find the back of the net as Olympic cruised to a well-earned win.
In the NPL NSW Women’s, it was goals galore at Peter Moore Field where Sydney Olympic pulled through against the Illawarra Stingrays in a seven-goal thriller.
Teresa Polias almost had Olympic ahead on 12 minutes, hitting the bar with a fantastic free kick.
Only 20 seconds or so later, Sarah Yatim got beyond the Stingrays keeper and tapped the ball home.
The action continued, end to end with both teams having good chances to add to the score line.
In the 32nd minute, Yatim took advantage of a goal mouth scramble following a corner to poke the ball into the back of the net.
Mackenzie Hawkesby made it 3-0 only three minutes after the break after a neat through ball by Polias.
In the 55th minute the away side were gifted a lifeline as Michelle Carney pounced on an Amanda Horafios error. Three minutes later and it was game on as Olivia Price scored the Stingrays second.
The come-back was completed in the 66th minute as Eden Stoddard broke through the Olympic defence to make it 3-3.
But all their hard work would be undone nine minutes from full time as Jessica Frampton headed home from a Polias corner to put Olympic back in front to win 4-3.
