Officer, 49, charged over child abuse material find

A POLICE officer from Georges Hall has been suspended with pay after he was one of two people charged following an investigation into the alleged possession and distribution of child abuse material.

In May this year, investigators attached to the Professional Standards Command, commenced an investigation into allegations that child abuse material was allegedly being stored and distributed on an electronic device.
During the investigation, items including a mobile phone were seized and forensically examined.
Following further inquiries, a 62-year-old man was arrested at Five Dock and charged with use carriage service for child abuse material and possess child abuse material.
Shortly after, a search warrant was executed at Georges Hall where a 49-year-old sergeant, who is attached to a specialist command, was arrested and charged with possess child abuse material. Police also seized electronic storage devices.

Arrest man for servo robberies
A MAN has been charged after a Punchbowl service station was allegedly robbed three times in a month earlier this year.
On Thursday, April 8, about 8pm, a man entered a service station on Punchbowl Road, Belmore, and allegedly threatened the attendant with a knife, before taking an amount of cash and cigarettes as well as the attendant’s mobile phone and fleeing; on Sunday, April 11, about 9.30pm, a man entered the same service station while armed with a knife, allegedly demanding and taking an amount of cash and cigarettes then fleeing; then on Sunday, April 25, about 10.45pm, the service station was robbed by a masked man armed with a knife, who demanded cash, cigarettes and the attendant’s wallet before fleeing.
The attendants, men aged 42, 30 and 26, were not injured.
The 26-year-old faces charges of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

Seize drugs worth over $1 million
HOMES at Bankstown, Bass Hill, Riverwood, Sefton and Villawood, were among 11 raided by police last Wednesday during an investigation into the allegedly supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney.
During the searches, police uncovered three hydroponic cannabis set-ups at homes at Guildford, Mount Pritchard and Dundas, with more than 290 cannabis plants seized, with an estimated potential street value of $1.015 million. Detectives also seized 17kg of cannabis, MDMA, cocaine, an electronic stun device and more than $105,000 cash.
A 26-year-old man was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity; two men aged 27 and 33 and a 35-year-old woman were charged with knowingly take part-cultivate commercial quantity prohibited plant and found on/entering/leaving drug premises; a 38-year-old man was charged with four counts of supply prohibited drug, cultivate prohibited plant, knowingly take part-cultivate commercial quantity prohibited plant, possess or use a prohibited weapon with permit, possess prohibited drug and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity; and a 41-year-old woman was charged with knowingly take part-cultivate commercial quantity prohibited plant.
