No change at top for Giants

FOR the second season, England Roses international Jo Harten will captain Giants Netball with Kristiana Manu’a as her deputy vice-captain.

The Giants showed impressive form in practice matches against the NSW Swifts and the Collingwood Magpies over the past couple of weeks and coach Julie Fitzgerald praised the pair for their leadership during last year’s tough season.
“Jo and Kris stepped into the roles ahead of what would become one of the most challenging seasons in our competition’s history,” Fitzgerald said.
“They led us admirably as we relocated to Queensland and kept the group together across three months away from home.
“We didn’t achieve what we wanted to on-court last year but their leadership never faulted and we’re looking forward to where they can take us in 2021.”
Also acknowledging that the team had not lived up to their own expectations in 2020, Harten said she had seen “an incredible amount of hard work and determination” from the squad during the pre-season.
“It’s a privilege to lead this group of women on and off the court,” she said.
“We just can’t wait to get back out on court and play in front of our members and fans this season.”
Fresh from a successful opening round road trip against the Adelaide Thunderbirds on Sunday, May 2, they now play back-to-back games to open the Ken Rosewall Arena at Sydney Olympic Park for the second and third rounds of the national netball season.
