NAIDOC Week grant to reduce parental imprisonment impact

NORMALLY celebrated around the country in July, this year’s NAIDOC Week events were pushed back to November 8-15 because of concerns about the ongoing pandemic.

Congratulating Shine for Kids Silverwater who received a national NAIDOC Week grant, Federal MP for Reid, Dr Fiona Martin, said this year’s theme, ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’, celebrated “the enduring traditions and cultures of our First Nations people”.
“We are privileged to have one of the world’s oldest continuous cultures and through NAIDOC events, we can share in this proud history and contemplate our future,” she said.
Dr Martin said Shine For Kids supports children, young people and families with relatives in the criminal justice system to reduce the negative effects of parental imprisonment, and their $900 grant will be used to help run a tailored ‘Belonging to Family’ program for Indigenous families.
