NAIDOC Week fun for youth with elder

STUDENTS from St Mary’s Primary Georges Hall, were mesmerised hearing the old stories from local elder Aunty Vicki Wade, her granddaughter Adella and passionate culture teacher Antonina Fieni at a celebration on Monday to mark NAIDOC Week, with this year’s theme, ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’, recognising that that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Principal Monica Palmer said: “Aunty Vicki told the story of her family, embedded in a beautiful totem gifted to the school by her son. Students enjoyed a yarning circle around a campfire and we also celebrated with an art installation depicting a sea of hands adorning our playground.”
