Cycling across Cooks a reality

BUCKLE up your helmets and put on your joggers – Ewen Park’s new $3.8 million pedestrian and cycle bridge is open and ready to enjoy.

City of Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said the new bridge would improve the way pedestrians and cyclists shared the precinct and connected the Cooks River Cycleway and surrounding areas.
“Not only will cyclists no longer need to dismount while crossing the Cooks River, the new wider and angled bridge, now provides a more interesting journey over the river,” he said.
This project took only 12 short weeks to complete with the main structure of the bridge built prior to being assembled on site. The work included a new all-access kayak launch pad, a new path made of crushed sandstone between Lang Road and Younger Avenue in Earlwood and landscaping along the banks of the river.
