Mary snapped up by UK

FORMER Bankstown City Lions star Mary Fowler, 19, seen by many as the next Sam Kerr, has taken the biggest step of her career, joining English powerhouse Manchester City on a four-year deal.

Fowler, who has seven goals in 24 caps for Australia since debuting as a 15-year-old, has emerged as one of the top young talents in women’s football.
She has enjoyed a breakout year at international level and stood out in Australia’s run to the Tokyo Olympics semi-finals, including scoring in the quarter-final win over Great Britain.
In 2019, despite having never played in a senior women’s league before, she became one of the youngest-ever players called up to a national team at a Women’s World Cup when she joined the Matildas in France at just 16 years old.
That experience spring-boarded her into her first W-League contract with Adelaide United later that year before swiftly moving abroad with French top-flight club Montpellier in January 2020.
She was recently awarded Australia’s PFA Young Women’s Footballer of the Year accolade and was named second in NXGN Football’s 2022 Women’s Next Generation shortlist in March which highlights the best young up and coming players in the world.
Bankstown City Lions Women’s Convenor Denise Hinton says the club is very proud of Mary and her achievements.
“We only played a small part in her journey but to see her do so well is just fabulous,” she said.
“Well done, Mary!”
