Lions’ den shut but charity golf day still

AFTER more than 62 years, the ‘den’ doors at the Auburn Lidcombe Lions has closed for good.

President Mick Garvey said it was frustrating that they were not able to recruit enough new members to keep the club going.
“The members are all moving to Parramatta Lions but we will still be doing work in this community, and still holding the Ralph Heness Golf Day,” he said.
“We will also still looking for community and council support for the golf day event as the money raised is donated locally to the Auburn Hospital and other great local causes.”
The club’s longest serving member, Ralph Heness admits while saddened by last month’s closure, he is pleased that the charity golf tournament named in his honour will continue to raise money for organisations including St Joseph’s Hospital at Auburn and be held at the Rosnay Public Golf Course.
Mr Heness says his personal association with St Joseph’s goes back to 1962 with the event supporting the hospital, and many other great local causes, since its inception.
“We want to thank the Cumberland Council, Dooleys Lidcombe, Bankstown Sports Club, Tooheys, Bunnings, the Auburn Review newspaper, and all the other great local businesses for all their support over many years and will be reaching out to them again for support with the golf day once we get the all clear,” he said.
