Lidcombe Waratah women in full bloom for 2020

SAYING they weren’t as flash as in previous years when they ran out onto the field for their first game of the 2020 season three weeks ago, Lidcombe Waratah FC’s All Age Women’s team player Mel Rennie says the lead-up to July 1 was very challenging.

“We couldn’t handle the ball, we could only do drills and fitness training as well as making sure all of our Covid protocols were in place,” Rennie said.
“One of the biggest challenges was not being able to hang out after training since we are a friendly lot, a very sociable bunch, so that was weird but understandable.”
The team lost the first game, had a bye in the second round and drew 2-all in the third.
“We found those results very pleasing since we were down 2-nil in the third game and were able to bounce back and score two goals,” Rennie added.
“We also had new girls join us and the team hasn’t had much of a chance to gel together, with the girls only at socially-distanced training a few times before we played the games.
“We are confident we will be in strong position soon and everyone loves being back on the field 100 per cent.
“Playing is pretty special so it is excellent being back despite the challenges.”
Secretary and player Tili Ta’Ofi agrees.
“Fingers crossed we can hang on and that the pandemic’s second wave doesn’t stop us.”
