Jazz legend joins forces with one of country’s most gifted

MAKING a huge impact on the Australian Jazz scene over the last 60 years, Ashfield resident Mike Nock will perform with the incredible Kristin Berardi, one of Australia’s most gifted jazz singers, this month

They will present the final Freedman New Jazz show for Sydney Improvised Music Association’s (SIMA) on Sunday, November 24 at Riverside Theatres.
Widely recognised as an important voice in Australian modern music, pianist, composer, educator and band leader, Mike has also spent 25 years in the USA working, touring and recording with many of the world’s top jazz artists and musicians including Coleman Hawkins, Yusef Lateef, Dionne Warwick, John Schofield, John Abercrombie and Michael Brecker.
In the ‘60s, he put together ground-breaking jazz rock quartet Fourth Way. They performed on the same bill as bands like the Grateful Dead and Cream and opened for Miles Davis in the Bitches Brew era.
Mike said: “The thing I love most about jazz is its spontaneity and ability to communicate honestly. It can be a fantastic, even life-changing experience, when this magic happens. One of Kristin’s greatest strengths, apart from her outstanding vocal musicianship, is her ability to connect emotionally with the audience. People should come along and experience just how powerful this can be! It’s a sheer joy to be performing with her.”
