Invite to free weekly meal and find social connection

IS anyone in need of a delicious, free weekly meal and someone to have a chat with?

Lifegate Community Church at 35 Cahors Road, Padstow, is inviting members of the community – of any age, religion or background – along to a free Wednesday event from 5.30pm where you’ll receive a two-course, homestyle-cooked meal and enjoy good company.
Community Dinner Coordinator Jackie Gibbon said the dinners were extremely popular before Covid-19 with at least 50 community members enjoying the food and fellowship every week.
“Last year a lot of people stopped coming and our numbers halved but we have such large capacity in our hall and want to help as many Canterbury Bankstown residents as possible,” she said.
“Our church has been doing this for over 10 years and has a dedicated team of volunteers who make it happen as we believe it’s the perfect opportunity for people to enjoy a free meal as well as find a social connection.
“Last week we enjoyed honey mustard chicken and roast veggies for the main and sticky date pudding for dessert, it’s always a real treat.”
After the dinner last Wednesday, James said: “I come to the Community Dinner because they serve good meals and the people are friendly.”
Theresa said: “The Community Dinner keeps me in contact with people and they are so caring.”
Lifegate also provides: Emergency frozen meals and pantry items; basic necessities such as toothbrush and soap; emergency clothing and blankets; referrals for assistance with emergency accommodation, homelessness and mental health; and referrals for rehabilitation facilities and counselling.
