‘Hundreds’ happy to hit courts again

ASKED what has kept her going to Berala-Carramar Hardcourt Tennis Association (BCHTA) courts for the last 50 years, Competitions Secretary Carol Pater says it’s because everyone is so friendly.

But she is not the only one, with a couple of hundred enthusiasts coming from all over Sydney to have a hit on the popular courts next door to Auburn Tennis Club.
Carol says all are thrilled to be getting back to the game they love after the long Covid shutdown, with a round robin on offer this week and competitions re-commencing on November 3 for all ages, including singles, doubles and mixed.
“Our 11 courts fill up on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays,” she said.
“However, we are always on the lookout for more participants and invite all who may not have played for a while to come along and have a hit.
“Tennis is the ideal activity to keep fit and healthy and have fun at the same time; I often marvel at our older women, many in their 70s, who have the energy and attitude of teenagers.”
With Auburn Tennis Club providing the perfect meet up destination for drinks or a meal after a game, BCHTA also offers coaching and matches for juniors.
