Have fun burning calories

BURNING 1,000 calories an hour, playing squash is “more effective than running or cycling” and unlike other sports which have an off-season and are often outdoors, it can be played all year-round.

Nisha Casey joined Roselands Squash & Fitness Centre before she had children who are now in their 20s and has been managing the centre and coaching squash for over 10 years.
With five competition squash courts on offer, a fully stocked pro shop and a racquet restringing and repair service, Nisha said the centre was a dream destination for the squash expert or novice alike.
“Playing squash regularly will improve your balance, agility and coordination; it’s also a pretty good stress reliever after a hard day,” she said.
“We offer a Monday night competition, Thursday night social, a Friday night squad and a Saturday social round-robin from 11am. In March, we will be offering a Thursday night NSW pennant competition.
“During school terms, squash coaching for juniors is available on Thursdays, 4.30-5.30pm.”
Nisha said members could also take advantage of the mixed gym or ladies only gym space, cardio room, weights room, stretch area, aerobics room, boxing, indoor bootcamp and personal training services plus ample onsite parking.
“Research shows that people who belonged to a gym not only exercised more – for both aerobic activity and strength training – they also had better cardiovascular health outcomes,” she said.
“Those health benefits were even greater for people who had a gym membership for more than a year. Gym-goers have lower resting heart rates, higher cardio-respiratory fitness and smaller waist circumferences than their non-member peers.”
With discounted memberships available throughout January and February, those interested in getting involved can call the centre on 9750 4044 or Nisha on 0433 300 638.
