Grant to support migrant women

THE Cultural Exchange Program has been awarded $5000 by Cumberland Council to help bring past participants from across NSW together to reconnect.

The program is spearheaded by this year’s Australia Day Local Hero, Rosemary Kariuki, and works to forge friendships between newly arrived multicultural women and families in regional NSW.
“Many of the migrant women in the program reside in Cumberland City, which is why it’s rewarding to be able to help support a great initiative for our community,” Mayor Steve Christou said.
“Rosemary was one of many applicants for this grant. It was her work, which helps migrant women to build confidence, step outside their comfort zones, seek work and make friendships in their local community, and with each other, that really stood out,”.
The grant will help facilitate the reunion at the newly built Granville Centre this year.
The Cumberland City Council Mayoral Community Fund is designed to provide financial support to applicants for worthy causes that support positive community outcomes.
