Giants Women on move

AFTER a tough few weeks and with two moves already under their belts, the AFLW Giants are eagerly anticipating the opening siren of the 2021 season.

Giants Head of women’s football, Briana Harvey, said players and staff had made “enormous personal and professional sacrifices” to ensure the season got underway for the entire competition and appreciated the AFL working with them to reduce additional travel.
“After a tumultuous past few weeks, we’re all excited to get the season underway,” she said.
“We’re desperate to return home as soon as possible and be able to play in front of our home fans. In the meantime we’re looking forward to a strong start to the season against Fremantle.”
Covid-19 outbreaks in NSW and border restrictions saw the entire team relocate to Albury on January 1, before moving to Adelaide last week.
Then during a practice match, Irish recruit Brid Stack suffered a serious spinal injury which left her in a neck brace, although she has rejoined the team as she rehabilitates for at least two weeks.
The injury came as the Giants prepare to travel to Western Australia to open their season against the Fremantle Dockers on Sunday, January 31.
Round Two on February 6 would nominally be a Giants home game, however travel restrictions mean they will take on the West Coast Eagles in Adelaide instead.
