Gear up for Shitbox Rally to aid ill

A TEAM from Club Rivers has signed up for an unpredictable adventure as a sponsor of the Cancer Council’s 2021 Autumn Shitbox Rally next month.

Not a race, the rally is rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable – to drive cars worth less than $1,000 across Australia’s dusty outback roads for a week, May 23-29, all in the name of charity.
Club Rivers President Michael Free, along with former CEO Stuart Jamieson, will be travelling over 3,962km from Alice Springs to the Gold Coast via the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The trip will see Michael and Stuart spend each night camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements.
“This is an incredible opportunity to support a worthy charity and at the same time, see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends,” Michael said.
“Many of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another. Whether it be parents, family, close friends, people we know or ourselves that have battled or are battling cancer, this all too common and horrid disease has touched us all.”
All teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but Michael and Stuart have raised in excess of $8,000 already.
The largest independent fundraiser for Cancer Council nationally, the event has raised over $18 million since 2010.
