Gallery to open after refurbish

SHUT last month, the Peacock Gallery in the Auburn Botanic Gardens will open again in the middle of next year after it undergoes a major revamp.

With the Gallery to become the “Peacock Precinct, a space for creation and development”, a Cumberland City Council spokesperson confirmed that the Gallery had closed temporarily while work was underway on “modifications to the Peacock Gallery to accommodate an artist studio, exhibition and program space”.
“We expect these works will be completed by early-to-mid 2021,” she said.
“In the meantime, residents can check out our exhibitions at The Granville Centre.”
The council also thanked the community, artists, curators, schools, partners and staff who contributed to the success and legacy of Peacock Gallery.
The ‘State of Culture in Cumberland’ background report noted that in 2019, while five other spaces were also used to deliver cultural and arts content in the local government area, the Peacock Gallery was the only dedicated council arts space, with weekly art activities for all ages and abilities as well as other regular public programs connected to the exhibition program.
