Helping to mark World COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) Day, former patient Allan Allsop, 72, was one of those who put his rehabilitation skills to the test.
“I recently completed the hospital’s pulmonary rehabilitation program and I’m using the skills and techniques to manage my lung condition,” he said.
“The friendliness of the staff, the interaction and the games were great fun especially the bingo – it was quite ingenious.”
Westmead Hospital’s Respiratory Ambulatory Care Service clinical co-ordinator Mary Roberts said the day was held to get people talking about COPD.
“COPD is a preventable and treatable disease which causes breathlessness, coughing and chest infections,” she said.
“It was great to see so many patients and supporters wearing the green COPD shirts and participating in the awareness day activities.”
The day was funded by donations from patients and Woolworths Merrylands.
