Four pedestrians hit in just four days alert

A SPATE of car accidents involving pedestrians has sparked a plea from police for motorists and pedestrians to stay aware on the road.
There have been four incidents in as many days in Canterbury Bankstown, as well as two fatalities and several other pedestrian accidents across Sydney over the last month.
A 57-year-old man was left with critical head injuries after being hit by a Toyota Yaris on a pedestrian crossing on the Hume Highway near Highland Avenue at Yagoona just before 4am on Monday, April 12.
The NSW Police Crash Investigation Unit manager, Acting Inspector Josh Dixon, said the accident happened in a well lit area and the driver should have seen the pedestrian.
“Particularly as he was approaching a red traffic light with plenty of opportunity to observe that,” he said.
The 56-year-old Cabramatta man who was behind the wheel, was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous body harm-drive manner dangerous, negligent driving occasioning grievous body harm, and not stop line at red light.
In a separate incident on the same day in Chester Hill, a man in his 80s was taken to hospital with minor injuries after being hit by a car which was allegedly reversing from a parking spot in Leicester Street just before 1.40pm.
Pedestrians were also involved in two accidents last week, with paramedics called to treat a woman in her 70s who was hit by a car on Anderson Avenue at Panania just before 12.30pm on Wednesday, April 7. She was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
A day later, on Thursday, April 8, an 80-year-old man was struck by a yellow Holden ute as he crossed Gow Street in Padstow at 9.30am.
Treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, he was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition with head and arm injuries, while the ute’s driver, a man aged in his 50s, has been since been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous body harm-drive manner dangerous and negligent driving occasioning grievous body harm.
