Four African teams face off next in semi

FACED with sweltering conditions, all four quarter-final matches in the NSW African Australian Cup of Nations Football Tournament, were pushed back for a later kickoff on Saturday, November 28.

The first quarter-final match saw Somalia edge out Liberia 2-1, while Morocco and Mauritania played out a thrilling 3-3 match with Morocco winning 13-12 in a very long penalty shoot-out, then Guinea cruised home 8-0 over Comoros while the South Sudan and Tunisia match ended 2-1.
Secretary of the African Australian Football Association, Mohammed Omar thanked all 16 teams for their participation as well as “the Auburn Police Local Area Command for their overwhelming support”.
“This tournament is by the community for the community,” he said.
“We want to bring people from CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) backgrounds to come to a safe, enjoyable and family friendly environment and for this, we thank our wonderful NSW Police Force for assisting us throughout our tournament.”
The semi-finals will see Morocco taking on South Sudan/Tunisia for a 5pm kick off and Somalia versus Guinea at 7pm at Rydalmere Park on Saturday, December 5, before an exciting grand final taking place on December 12.
