Football clubs reflect on achievements

DESCRIBING their season as amazing after coming away with four wins from four grand finals, Greenacre Eagles FC now have their summer soccer season underway.

Secretary Bariah Hammoud said the 31 Eagles teams all did exceptionally well.
“Grand final winners comprised our Grade 16, Division 2, All Age Men’s Division 5 and 6 and the Premier League 2 First Grade team,” she said.
“It was a fantastic achievement with all players achieving consistency.
“Some players are enjoying a break now, while others are playing summer soccer before registrations get underway in February.”
Likewise, Revesby Workers FC secretary Liz Errington said they were thrilled with their six grand final wins.
“We’ve had a very successful year, certainly the best in recent times and it’s all down to the dedication of the players,” she said.
“They keep turning up for training and focusing on teamwork.
“The juniors have fantastic coaches and we have a strong parent body.”
Errington said they had four members of the same family competing in grand finals, with Dad Anthony Whitehall (Club Coach of the Year) in the All Age Men’s Division 3 and coaching daughters Kayla (a registered ref) in the 17/18 Ladies and Bree in the 13s Division 2 as well as the 13 Ladies teams.
The Donnelly family had three wins, with Keith in AAM Division 3, Mya (a registered ref and ‘Junior Sportsperson of the Year’) in 17/18 Ladies and Alannah in 13 Ladies.
“We had 18 out of 22 competitive teams make the finals series,” Errington added.
“We also had a changing of the guard this year with new club president Dan Kurtz taking over the reins; he’s had a great first year.”
Known as the ‘club for all seasons’, Revesby Workers now has a Ladies Soccer and Summer Kindi Soccer competition which are now underway.
