First grand final since 2009

GREENACRE Tigers Junior Rugby League Football Club’s Open Mens Silver team have defeated East Hills Bulldogs Open Men in their Grand Final, 24-22, a first since 2009 with some of the players joining the club as five-year-olds, now in their 20s, and never having won a premiership before.

The club is also celebrating 18 mens silver and 16 womens silver teams taking out their Grand Finals too, with the Under 11s narrowly missing out on a Grand Final win.
Ecstatic club secretary Khalil Kouayder says players and club members are over the moon with the wins.
“It was a horrible year weatherwise, with rain impacting the season, pushing it back to a later start but we got there in the end and have enjoyed our most successful season for a long time,” he said.
“The wins were a few years in the making, with teams just falling short previously which makes these results even better.
“It was a great achievement which they will remember for the rest of their lives.”
Khalil said special mention must go to Pesamino Pesina who was named Player of the Match.
“Thanks to coaching staff Ahmad Cheikho, Shadi Kassem and Abs Obeid, as well as Nga Turia and manager Lana Brisenden,” he said.
With pre-season training getting underway in February, ahead of the April season opener, players aged from Under 5s to mens and womens, should visit playnrl.com.au when registrations open in November.
