Fine 81 over illegal protests

NINE people have been charged with a range of offences and more than $81,000 in fines were issued for alleged breaches of NSW Public Health Orders during unauthorised protests at Sydney Olympic Park and Byron Bay over the weekend.

At Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday, September 5, during a high-visibility police operation, a 45-year-old man was charged with assault officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty and not comply with noticed direction, and a 34-year-old man was charged with fail to comply with direction and not comply with noticed direction.
Police also issued a total of 81 Penalty Infringement Notices (PINs) of $1,000 each at the events and have urged people to report suspected breaches of any ministerial direction or behaviour which may impact on the health and safety of the community.

Guard stabbing charge
A 26-YEAR-OLD inmate at Silverwater was charged with malicious wounding after allegedly stabbing a guard at Silverwater women’s prison last Monday, August 31.
The 24-year-old female correctives officer was treated at Westmead Hospital and her injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Breached isolation fine
POLICE have fined a 26-year-old Lidcombe man $1,000 for allegedly breaching a direction to self isolate.
On Wednesday, August 26, officers spoke to the man who provided documentation that his self-isolation finished on Tuesday, August 25, however he allegedly worked a shift the previous day as a security guard at a quarantine hotel on Sussex Street in Sydney but was sent home by his supervisor. He has also been stood down from the hotel quarantine operation.
