Find your place in history on a visit to Show’s virtual museum

DELVE into the rich history of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) with its new virtual museum.

The Society, which relocated to Sydney Olympic Park from Moore Park in 1998, is providing a rare glimpse into its heritage collection in celebration of its bicentenary.
The virtual museum provides an interesting look into the organisation’s timeline, explores its museum for objects and images, and looks at records such as past champions, trophies and competition histories in the information section.
RAS Heritage Manager Karen Finch is delighted to share the collection with the public and encourages those connected to the RAS to explore their own history through the site and see what they can find.
“After 200 years, the RAS has an incredible history, and throughout that time, we have safely documented and catalogued that history, along with the history of the wider agricultural industry to remember and celebrate our past,” she said.
“It will provide a glimpse into the extraordinary archives the RAS protects and give the public a chance to find their place within its history. Whether that be through competition catalogues, images of ancestors or memories of the Sydney Royal Easter Show.”

Did you know: Despite military occupation at Moore Park Showground throughout WWI, the Show continued. In WWII, this tradition was continued, with the military vacating each Showtime until 1941 to ensure the RAS could still run the Show to help boost community spirit.
