Dogs need to dig deep in next rounds to avoid wooden spoon

THE Bulldogs seem all but assured of collecting their first wooden spoon since 2008 after another performance featuring plenty of effort but little attacking execution in their loss to the TItans 34-6 on Monday night.

The Dogs held off an early raid but soon cracked as the Titans went in after crashing through some feeble goal-line defence.
Bailey Biondi-Odo added a bit of spark when brought on in the halves while Kyle Flanagan was taken for a HIA but his goal-line drop-out was nullified by Jayden Okunbor dropping the kick.
Trailing by 16-0 at half time, the Dogs had a few attacking chances in the second half but weren’t able to find points, with the Titans getting further ahead in the 53rd minute.
Biondi-Odo finally got his side on the board when he burrowed over from dummy-half with eight minutes remaining.
With the loss weighing heavily, Coach Trent Barrett said he was more than disappointed.
“We were our own worst enemy again,” he said.
“There were so many discipline and other errors and we’ve got a few blokes that need to have a good look at themselves.
“We have got a thin squad but it’s up to us to get better; we need to take a lot more pride in what we do over the next few months.”
When asked if relocation to Queensland over the lockdown had taken its toll on the players, Barrett said: “It’s the same for everyone and we had good preparation so there are no excuses there.”
The Bulldogs play the Tigers on Sunday, August 8, from 2pm at Moreton Daily Stadium, Redcliffe.
