Crime gang in detention

In December 2019, detectives from Sutherland Police established Strike Force Leahy to investigate the activities of a criminal syndicate believed to be operating from within the Villawood centre.
Their inquiries revealed the group were allegedly involved in the purchase of motor vehicles using fraudulently obtained credit cards.
Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, assisted by police, Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad, the Dog Unit and Australian Border Force (ABF), executed a search warrant at the centre about 5am last Friday.
During the search of the rooms occupied by the group, police allegedly located an amount of white powder and several mobile phones.
Police have charged three of the men who were arrested at the centre and another two on Monday.
A 20-year-old Sudanese national was charged with obtaining property by deception, attempt ing to obtain property by deception, supplying a prohibited drug and directing a criminal group; a 34-year-old Lebanese national was charged with obtaining property by deception, supplying a prohibited drug and participating in a criminal group; a 49-year-old Lebanese national was charged with obtaining property by deception, attempting to obtain property by deception, supplying a prohibited drug and participating in a criminal group; an 18-year-old man arrested at Sutherland Police Station, was charged with obtaining property by deception, attempting to obtain property by deception, disposing of property believed to be stolen, and participating in a criminal group; and a 34-year-old man was arrested at Bowral Police Station and charged with disposing of property believed to be stolen, participating in a criminal group, and driving while disqualified.
