Club fans cheer on ‘Libertini’ in nation richest turf race with eye on prize for Melbourne Cup

BASEMENT Brewhouse was abuzz on Saturday as Bankstown Sports Club race fans gathered to watch Australia’s richest turf race, Everest, with fingers crossed that ‘Libertini’ – named after La Piazza owner Mario Libertini – might take out the top prize after winning The Premier Stakes earlier this month.

This was not to be but Mario and horse owner Gerry Harvey are not discouraged and will pursue greener pastures in Melbourne next month.
“We knew we were at a bit of a disadvantage but thought we may be in with half a chance,” Mario said.
“However we are going to push on and put her in a race during Melbourne Cup and see how she goes next.
“It’s onward and upward.”
With five cocktails on offer at Basement Brewhouse on the day and named after a selection of the horses, complimentary cocktails were handed out as ‘Classique Legend’ won the race.
‘The Ledge’ took your palette straight to the Everest, combining Ink Gin, Pama Pomegranate Liqueur, fresh grapefruit juice, grenadine, fresh lemon juice and sugar syrup – definitely a win in looks and taste.
Everest was also the launch weekend of Basement Brewhouse’s new menu, with lots of ‘low and slow items’ from the house smoker going down like a treat.
Off the back of the success of Everest day, the team is gearing up for Melbourne Cup Day.
Bankstown Sports is offering a set menu in Stuzzichino, exclusive cocktails inside Basement Brewhouse and Atrium Bar and of course, live entertainment in the Rainforest Lounge from 11am– 3pm.
Come in, watch the race and get the party season started in a Covid-safe environment.
