City line via Regents Park to re-open

A MAJOR shake-up is coming for rail commuters with big changes to accommodate new Metro services in 2024 set to impact stations including Regents Park and Lidcombe.

Part of a rail network revamp to accommodate the new metro rail line, the planned changes were outlined in a report on a community consultation held earlier this year and released by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) last week.
The report showed 85 per cent of respondents in favour of the second of three proposed rail service options, with TfNSW chief operations Officer Howard Collins saying they received “more than 600 items of feedback”.
“It is obvious that direct services to the city was the most important thing for most customers,” Mr Collins said.
From 2024, under Option 2, Regents Park will become the main interchange point for customers wishing to switch between the two branch lines, with a T3 shuttle service to operate between Lidcombe and Bankstown.
The changes will also mean future adjustments to bus services and timetables.
Welcoming the news that the former Inner West Line’s City to Liverpool via Regents Park service will re-open, Roydon Ng, from the Restore Inner West Line Action Group, said it was thanks to seven years of campaigning from local residents.
“It’s about time Tinseltown paid attention to us fibros out west instead of their developer mates,” he said.
Mr Ng said Berala and Regents Park commuters were among those who would benefit from reduced interchanges and direct access to the City Circle via the Inner West in 2024.
However he said they continued to oppose the conversion of Sydenham to Bankstown train lines for the Metro, and suggested that improved signalling to deliver trains every two to three minutes, offered a lower-cost alternative.
