Canterbury Little Athletics capping registrations to 300 over Covid

DEVELOPING the potential in every child at a young age can inspire them to have a passion for sports.

Little Athletics is a good foundation into other sports because it teaches the basic sports skills.
A fun, social and active program for girls and boys aged 3 to 17, the Canterbury Little Athletics Centre (CLAC) program teaches a wide range of skills in events from walking and running (sprints and middle distance), to jumping and throwing.
Despite annually running from September 1 to March 31, the upcoming season won’t get underway until Friday, September 18.
However, registrations opened on Friday and CLAC president Amy Winters says it will be a case of first in, first registered with numbers having to be capped this year to 300.
“Last season we had 421 register but to maintain all the Covid safe requirements and social distancing, we have to run our program with less participants to ensure everyone is safe,” Winters said.
“The season is starting later as we share Campbell Athletic Field, opposite Canterbury Racecourse, with other sporting codes who started and will finish their season later this year.
“As with other community sport, numbers can often drop off after Christmas but we are confident of registering our maximum before we get back on track; I think parents will want to secure their child’s place sooner rather than later.”
CLAC also offers a ‘Tiny Tots’ program for three and four-year-olds.
