Board game, ballet, bowls

WHEN many other senior citizen clubs are struggling to keep their memberships alive, Panania Senior Citizens is going from strength to strength with numbers increasing to over 70 once activities resumed in February.

Club member Evelyn Chambers puts it down to the fact that there are activities on offer every day of the week as well as bus trips.
“We love our centre and all the get-togethers including our meetings and celebrations, such as our recent Easter lunch at Panania Diggers,” Evelyn said.
“We know that a lot of other centres are doing it tough, especially since Covid last year; a lot of older people are still not game to go out but things are getting better so hopefully numbers will improve at the other centres too.
“It’s hard to beat Panania though since activities are so well organised and everyone is so friendly; we’re more like a big family and everyone’s invited to come along.”
Activities include: Aged daycare on Mondays (book through council); Tai Chi on Tuesdays, 9.30-10.30am and 11-12pm (cost is $5); Line dancing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 12.15-2.15pm (cost is $8); indoor carpet bowls on Thursdays, 8.30am-12pm (cost is $2), board games, ballet (private lessons through council) and cards also available on Thursdays (1.30-4.30pm); and a gentle exercise class on Fridays, 10-11am (cost is $3) plus board games and cards (1-4pm).

You’ll find the centre at 77 Anderson Avenue, Panania, and for details, call 9773 5499.
