Best way to escape petrol cost, tolls but ensure bike’s safe first

PETROL prices keep going up and we now have tolls everywhere but there is a solution.

Try riding a bike.
Research shows that Sydneysiders are increasingly using a bicycle for their everyday transport journeys around the city, especially since the pandemic hit with many less keen to share public transport.
If your bicycle is in need of a tune-up or it’s been a while since you put your foot on the pedal, why not book in for a free Bicycle Maintenance class at 99 Bikes, 1/9 Parramatta Road, Lidcombe, which is held every second month on Thursdays, 6.15-7.30pm.
Topics covered include assessing your bike is safe to ride including learning how to determine bolt tensions, use a pedal spanner or a mini tool set and how to re-lubricate chains or repair a tyre plus understanding the process to follow when cleaning your bike.
99 Bikes staffer and workshop host Nathan says the class is ideal for getting to know your bike as they’re all different.
“It’s a great opportunity to get the bicycle mechanics to give you a general bike assessment to gauge if your bike might require a full service and then for you to learn how to take care of it,” he said.
“Riders can also ask the bicycle mechanics questions regarding bike maintenance and safety.”
