Back in the doghouse

THE Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs have signed Cameron Ciraldo as head coach for five seasons, starting in 2023, after a weekend of shock upsets which saw the blue and whites go down to the NZ Warriors 42-18 at Mt Smart Stadium on Friday night.

“As the club continues to build for long-term sustained success, we are pleased Cameron shares the vision of ensuring our football programs are best-in-class,” a spokesperson said.
The Warriors opened the scoring after seven minutes and just four minutes were in again when a Matt Burton pass was intercepted making it 12-0.
The Bulldogs struck back in the 17th minute when Burton was cut down a metre short and a quick play-the-ball gave Jake Averillo the chance to power over from close range before the Warriors went in again.
The Bulldogs struck next when Kyle Flanagan posted his third try of the season.
Shortly after the Bulldogs drew level when Josh Addo-Carr picked off a Johnson pass and sprinted 90 metres to score but the Warriors continued to mount pressure and crossed for their fourth try.
With 12 minutes to play, they extended their lead and then put the game out of reach in the 75th minute.
In some good news and after failing to score a try in his first five matches in Canterbury colours, Addo-Carr has exploded into action with two hat-tricks and three doubles in the ensuing 15 games.
Bulldogs coach Mick Potter said he wasn’t happy with a lot of things the team did defensively.
“We need to be a lot better there,” he said.
“We’re not building pressure on the opposition enough to wear them down and they’re building pressure on us, and it’s all to do with our defence.
“We need to fix that up and stop them making as many metres as they are making.”
The Bulldogs next do battle with the Eels at CommBank Stadium this Saturday from 3pm.
